Just like a car cannot run without petrol, or how a bee cannot make honey without pollen, human beings cannot feel a sense of fulfilment and true happiness without passion.
To live life passionately seems like such a difficult task to achieve as our lives are constantly occupied with the things we have to do, rather than with the things we wish to do. Often times we forget that life is a gift, a blank canvas on which we can decide the outcome and paint our dreams, desires, and passions. In that decision we tend to forget the impact of the little things and how they can fulfil our thirst for passion. This is where living life passionately is important.
To live life passionately means embracing every moment, whether it be big or small, it means pursuing your lifelong goals, and finding fulfilment in the journey of achieving these goals.
So, how can we begin the journey of living life with passion?
1. Discover your Passions.
What makes you feel alive? What activities and dreams ignite a sense of deep joy and excitement within you? Living life with passion begins with a journey of self-discovery. Take the time to discover who you are, and what your passions, interests, strengths, and talents are. This requires you to put yourself out there. You need to try new things, engage in different types of activities and workspaces, as well as take a variety of classes to see whether what they stimulate your brain, and ignite a fire in your soul.
In other words, participate in life, and you may find your passion along the way.
2. Let Go of your Fears and Take the Risks.
We are often discouraged and prevented from acting out our passions due to our fear of failure. But it is important to remember that failure is part of the process, failure helps us grow, helps us learn, and helps us determine whether we want to continue to pursue our goals or set them aside. So use your fears as motivation, take the risks and venture out of your comfort zone. So, be brave and venture on.
“Courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.” Nelson Mandela
3. Remain Persistent and Resilient
The journey of pursuing your goals and living life with passion is not always easy, it come with its obstacles, challenges, and moments of self-doubt. It is, however, in these moments of struggle that we learn how important our dreams and passions are to us. During these struggles, it is important to remember that the challenges we are faced with, force us to grow and change for the better. These obstacles serve as a steppingstone on our path to success and living life with passion. There are a number of ways in which you can remain resilient: (1) surround yourself with like-minded people, (2) journal and document your journey, (3) ask people for advice, and (4) remain positive even when the journey gets tough.
4. Be Present and Savour the Moments
Living passionately is also being able to take the time to enjoy the little moments. Often, in our attempts to document the moment with videos and pictures, we forget to be present in the moment. We view the moments through a camera lens and a phone screen that does not quite capture the emotion behind it all. Take time to be present in the moment and fully immerse yourself in the experience, as it is the experience that makes the memory. Sometimes, we also get hung up on the expectation that moments need to be big and grand. However, being present helps us make, even the little moments, even grander.
Living a life of passion isn’t always easy but it is important that we make the conscious choice every day to follow and pursue our passions so that we may find everything we’ve been searching for; a life of fulfilment, a life that helps us reach our full potential, and a life that truly makes us feel a great sense of happiness.
